Study visit of tutors and VET educators in Romania strengthens long-term mobilities

Advancing vocational education through international collaboration

Between 9-12 March 2026, a study visit of tutors and VET educators took place in Miercurea Ciuc (Csíkszereda), Romania, bringing together professionals involved in vocational education and training (VET) to exchange knowledge, strengthen partnerships, and enhance the quality of long-term ErasmusPro mobilities.

The visit was organised within the framework of two complementary Erasmus+ cooperation projects: AVETE (Alliance for VET Excellence: Advancing ErasmusPro Mobilities) and EASI (Enhancing Assessment Skills of In-company Tutors Hosting International Students for Improved Work-based Learning Evaluation).

This way, these initiatives aim to improve both the structure and quality of international mobility programmes and the competencies of the professionals supporting them.

Strengthening ErasmusPro mobilities through AVETE and EASI projects

The AVETE project focuses on the development and enhancement of ErasmusPro mobilities, with particular attention to improving their quality, accessibility, and long-term impact for learners and institutions.

In parallel, the EASI project addresses the need to strengthen the skills of professionals involved in mobility programmes, including tutors, mentors, and in-company trainers. By focusing on assessment skills in work-based learning, the project contributes to more effective evaluation processes and better learning outcomes for participants.

Together, both projects play a key role in advancing work-based learning in Europe, supporting the development of high-quality, structured, and impactful international VET mobility experiences.

A diverse programme of learning, visits, and innovation

The study visit in Miercurea Ciuc offered a rich and diverse programme combining institutional visits, cultural experiences, and hands-on workshops, allowing participants to explore different dimensions of vocational education and training.

Key activities included:

  • A cultural visit to the Szekler Border Guard Center, providing insight into local heritage and identity
  • An institutional visit to St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Theological High School, highlighting educational practices in the region
  • A work-based learning visit to Gyimesi Skanzen, showcasing real-life applications of VET and experiential learning
  • A workshop on drones in VET, introducing innovative tools and technologies in vocational education

These activities enabled participants to exchange best practices, explore innovative approaches, and strengthen collaboration across institutions and countries.

Enhancing skills for quality work-based learning

A key focus of the study visit was the development of competencies related to work-based learning evaluation, particularly for professionals supporting international mobility programmes.

By engaging in workshops and collaborative sessions, participants enhanced their understanding of:

  • Assessment methods in vocational education
  • Mentorship and tutoring in international mobility contexts
  • Quality assurance in ErasmusPro programmes
  • The role of innovation and digital tools in VET

These learning outcomes contribute to improving the overall effectiveness of Erasmus+ mobility projects, ensuring that participants benefit from structured, well-evaluated, and impactful learning experiences.

Building stronger European VET ecosystems

In conclusion, the study visit of tutors and VET educators reflects the growing importance of collaboration in strengthening the European vocational education ecosystem. By connecting institutions, educators, and industry actors, initiatives like AVETE and EASI contribute to building more resilient, innovative, and learner-centred education systems.

Through continued cooperation, knowledge exchange, and capacity building, such projects support the development of high-quality international mobility programmes that enhance employability, skills development, and cross-cultural understanding.
