PRO-S project advances agricultural education through teachers training in Rwanda and Naivasha

Strengthening agricultural TVET through international cooperation

In April, the PROmoting Sustainability and Innovation in Agricultural TVET Through Cross-sectoral Cooperation (PRO-S) project has officially launched its teachers training activities in Rwanda, and Naivasha, Kenya, bringing together agricultural educators to strengthen vocational education and training (TVET) through collaboration, reflection, and practical learning.

The initiative focuses on improving the quality and relevance of agricultural education in Africa, supporting teachers in connecting classroom learning with real-world challenges in agriculture and sustainability.

Teachers training begins in Rwanda: connecting education with real-life practice

The expert team arrived in Rwanda, where the first day of the local teachers training within the PRO-S project has already begun.

The training brought together a room full of agricultural educators with different backgrounds, experiences, and contexts, but with a shared goal: making agricultural TVET education more connected to real-life practice.

The programme opened with a fundamental reflection on what relevant education means today, setting the tone for a day focused on meaningful dialogue and collaboration. Participants then explored best practices in agricultural education, sharing methods and experiences that are already working in different environments.

During the interactive workshop sessions, the training became highly participatory, with teachers engaging in collaborative learning, peer exchange, and reflective discussions. Participants actively questioned existing teaching approaches and began developing new ideas that can be applied directly in their classrooms.

Supported by experts from the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (Magyar Agrár- és Élettudományi Egyetem), the focus remained strongly practical, ensuring that all discussions were grounded in applicable teaching methods and real educational contexts.

Naivasha training continues: collaboration and practical learning in action

In parallel, the teachers training in Naivasha continued with a similarly dynamic approach, bringing together agricultural TVET educators to reflect on how teaching practices can better respond to today’s learning needs.

The day began again with a central question: what does relevant education look like in today’s context? From there, participants engaged in discussions on best practices in agricultural education, sharing concrete examples from their own professional environments.

As the training progressed, the interactive workshop sessions created a highly collaborative environment. Teachers worked side by side, exchanged perspectives, and critically reflected on their teaching methods, aiming to improve how students engage with agricultural learning.

With the continued support of experts from the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the emphasis remained on practical, transferable methods that can be implemented beyond the training environment.

Building stronger agricultural education systems through PRO-S

The PRO-S project demonstrates the importance of cross-sectoral cooperation in agricultural TVET, bringing together educators, experts, and institutions to strengthen the quality of vocational education in agriculture.

By focusing on sustainability, innovation, and practical teaching approaches, the project supports teachers in developing more relevant and impactful learning experiences for students across different regions.

Through initiatives like this, international cooperation in education continues to play a key role in improving skills development, employability, and the future of agricultural education systems.
