Participatory Europe was a 9-day training course in Orfu, Hungary that gathered 30 youth workers from 10 countries to respond to young people’s disaffection with politics and the rise of extremism, passivity and disinformation. The project empowered youth workers to explain and open up politics and policy-making to young people by building their political awareness as a key competence. Using non-formal methods, it strengthened their understanding of democratic systems, human rights and the European context, and provided practical know-how on policy creation, advocacy, communication and dialogue with authorities. Participants planned follow-up actions to cooperate with decision-makers, design youth policy proposals and create more enabling environments for meaningful youth participation.
