About the project

Throughout a long research made together with all the youngsters involved in this project we have notices different issues related to media literacy and the lack of critical thinking and analysis among young people. Nowadays youngsters are the biggest users of internet, access to internet for European Union and the world is seen as a good thing for the future, meanwhile is creating also other issues. The fact that youngsters have an easy access on internet is causing problems related to safety of young people and lack of privacy. Due to the lack of media literacy and guidelines for the correct usage of social media and other web tools youngsters are exposed to many risks. Other problems created by internet is the huge development of not reliable information which are stoking hate speech, xenophobia, violent extremism building stereotypes and prejudice on the mind of young people. Due to all this issues we have decided to carry out this project, the main aim of it is to enhance media educated youngsters, fight violence and unsafe situations for youngsters and people on the web and reduce percentage of fake information in the web by fostering dialogue and mutual understanding.

“Youth@medialiteracy.eu” will be a youth exchange involving 6 Erasmus+ programme countries which will gather 6 participants + 1 group leader per country. The project will be implemented in Tallinn area, Estonia from 1st to 9th of September 2017.

Our objectives are:

– To explore media development, new challenges and issues at European and world level;
– To raise awareness on participation through online platforms and transfer useful skills to play an active role in the spread of information;
– To enable participants to identify fake or reliable information enhancing their critical thinking;
– To discover privacy rules and dangers on the web and deal with copyright and creation of contents;
– To break stereotypes and prejudice by fostering understanding and dialogue through the exploration of concepts of hate speech and cyberbulling;
– To create guidelines on correct and safe internet usage for young people and a spot to promote it at local and European level;

The activities will be based on non formal education methodologies, interactive activities, plenary debates, simulation games, theatre, role plays, brainstormings and they will be facilitated by all the groups involved guaranteeing a learner centred strategy and learning by doing concept. Moreover some innovatives methods will be used, like Geocaching and other web related workshops.

The participants will get skills on digital literacy, critical thinking, team work, time management, civic and social skills, digital divide, communication, cooperation, negotiation, understanding of the concepts of reliability, critical thinking, concept of identity online and offline, concept of privacy and safety, copyright rules, e-inclusion, fight no hate speech, cyberbulling, digital competences.

The venue will be for sure around Tallinn area.

Financial conditions

In case of Hungary the travel reimbursement 275 euro.
Each participant will receive the 100% of the total reimbursement within the limit of the box above after the presentation of all the official documents (Boarding Passes and Invoices), and right after they have concluded the follow-up activities, dissemination of results. Be Aware that the reimbursement will be calculated according to the travel costs of participants, from their place of origin to the venue of the activity and return. The reimbursement will be made by bank transfer to the bank account of the NGO partner in the project.
